Many electronic systems now use the serial bus system CAN (Controller Area Network) for data exchange. This is due to the immunity to interferences, real-time capability and cost-effective integration. In particular in the automotive industry as well as automation are CAN-Bus systems now standard.

In matters of power measurement, power analyzer are used in the development of electrically powered vehicles, to measure the electrical power and efficiency of the entire electric drive line. But how can these measuring devices be integrated into the vehicles CAN network? Usually current power analyzers, which can be used for precise measurement of high electrical power, are equipped with USB, RS232 and / or Ethernet port. Say, due to different communication protocols, unifying the data from all systems (actuators, sensors) comes along with an additional software effort and expenditure of time. Moreover, additional costs arise with the use of substitution technologies.

The ZES ZIMMER Power Analyzer series LMG600 can now be equipped with a CAN-Bus interface and thus make data communication in accordance with ISO 11898-2 High-speed CAN-Bus possible. This allows an additional way of power measurement within complex sensor groups. Hence, the aforementioned problems will be avoided. It makes these power analyzers totally unique in the market in offering precise power analysis in the automation and automobile industry with fast and standardized integration for data communication via CAN. The power analyzer act as a sensor in a sensor or actuator network and is able to provide multiple measurement values on different CAN IDs. It will continuously send the measurement values according to the given measurement cycle. Additionally, incoming remote transmission requests (RTR) inquiring about this CAN ID will be answered with the latest measurement value available for this slot.
